Inquire Capitalism Internship Program in Digital Business History
This paid internship is designed to introduce undergraduate students to skills in scholarly communications, archival research in person and online, Digital Humanities tools and projects, basics in project management skills and tools for the Humanities, scholarly communication and publishing, digital publishing, website management, academic research, and corporate relations.
The Plan
The Inquire Capitalism intern will enroll in the UF History Department’s internship course, HIS4944, for three credits. This internship will be focused mainly on Inquire Capitalism’s GNV Business History project, which aims to explore and document the complex set of economic, social, cultural, and political contexts that have influenced key actors in the history of capitalism – including firms, business people, and the experiences of business owners, managers, and family-run enterprises – of Gainesville, Florida, starting from the late 19th century.
IC interns will gain experience in digital research and public history, and we will be working on collecting new oral histories, as well as working with some of the established ones on businesses such as the University Club, Satchel’s Pizza, Renaissance Printing, and MiApá.
The interns will work collectively on various projects and will meet regularly with IC’s directors, Dr. Sean Adams and Dr. Paula de la Cruz-Fernández. Interns will also earn $2,500 over the course of the semester.
Eligibility
The Intern should be:
-A full-time student enrolled in the University of Florida
-Demonstrate an interest in business history, digital history, or both.
-Devote from 5 to 10 hours a week over the course of the semester in order to make GNV Business History a cutting edge resource for digital history.
